Privacy policy
In short: Breakpane collects no personal data, has no account, no analytics and no servers, and sends nothing anywhere. Everything happens inside your browser.
Breakpane is a Chrome extension, made by Lavkush Kumar, for testing how web pages look on different screen sizes. This policy explains what the extension does with your information.
Information we collect
None. Breakpane does not collect, receive, store, share or sell any personal information, browsing history, website content or usage data. It contains no analytics or tracking code and does not load remote code.
Information stored on your device
Breakpane saves your settings in Chrome’s local extension storage on your own computer:
- the devices you selected and any custom device sizes you created,
- zoom, theme, sync and display options,
- the last few page addresses you tested, so you can open them again.
This data never leaves your browser. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.
Websites you test
Pages you open in Breakpane load directly from those websites in your browser, just as if you visited them yourself. Breakpane’s scripts run only inside the device frames it creates, to emulate the chosen device and to keep scrolling, clicks and typing in sync between devices. Messages between these frames stay inside the Breakpane tab. Password and file fields are never synced.
So that sites can load inside device frames, Breakpane removes frame-blocking response headers (X-Frame-Options and Content-Security-Policy) for requests made inside the Breakpane tab only. If you choose a User-Agent option, Breakpane changes that request header for the Breakpane tab only. No other tab is affected, and these rules are removed when you close the Breakpane tab.
Screenshots and recordings
Screenshots and videos are created in your browser and saved straight to your computer as downloads. They are never uploaded.
Permissions
- Website access is optional and requested only when you click “Allow website access”. It is used to load the site you choose in device frames, sync the devices, and capture screenshots of the Breakpane tab.
- Storage saves your settings locally, as described above.
- Active tab reads the address of the current tab when you click the Breakpane button, so it can open that page for testing.
- Scripting and declarative net request power the device frames, sync and header rules described above, only inside the Breakpane tab.
- Context menus add “Test this page in Breakpane” to the right-click menu.
Children
Breakpane is a developer tool and is not directed at children. It collects no information from anyone.
